Natural Marbles and Granites

Before you make the decision about which material to choose for your project, it is worth taking the time to consider what the material is.

Marble, Granite, Slate or stone can be millions of years old and come from all over the world, including some remote locations. They have been constantly moved by the passage of time, encountering earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and continental shifts. With this in mind, it is expected that there will be variation in the colouration and markings of each individual natural material.

Marble, Granite, Slate and stone are sold throughout the world as inherently unsound, varying from hairline cracks in some to extensive cracks in others. Therefore, it is commonplace within the industry to stop, cramp and resin these materials to strengthen them, which is considered essential repairs. Whilst they do not happen to all materials, any repairs made should be regarded as commonplace and not treated as defective.

Uniformity of appearance should not be expected when selecting natural materials, but our experienced craftsmen have great knowledge to ensure that we cut from the areas of the slab with the most character and strength. This may mean incorporating some natural veining or using fossils, but we appreciate that this will feature in your home for many years to come, so take the utmost care when cutting your chosen material. If however, you would like to decide what areas of the slab you would like to use in each section of your kitchen, we will be more than happy to arrange a convenient time for you to visit our workshop and we will do our best to accommodate your requests.
